Preface

Image. It is ironic that, at the start of the 21st century, as we face revolutionary thought in science, art and philosophy, politics has become conservative and mundane. It is in this context that socialism has become again a revolutionary concept. And it is with this perspective that socialism is set here alongside revolutionary thinking in those other disciplines.

This website takes all of the Summaries and some of the images in the book to give you a small preview and to promote the publication. The itself book seeks to provide an access to current concepts in social and political philosophy at a popular level and to place ideas of direct action in that context. It has been written from the experience of the grass-root actions of the 1960s and 70s and the ideas that inspired and have subsequently flowed from them.

The book addresses wider questions of political and social philosophy and consideration is given to those ideas which, it would seem from today's viewpoint, will stamp the character of the coming century. This includes concepts such as sociobiology, chaos/complexity theory, cosmological physics, and postmodern art.
